What is double eyelid surgery?

There are three types of double eyelid surgery: non-incisional, incisional, and partial incisional. The surgery method is chosen considering the following factors : i) the eyelid type, ii) the thickness of the eyelid skin, and iii) the volume under the eyelid skin.

Non-incisional Double Eyelid Surgery

Non-incisional double eyelid surgery is a surgical method that ties the skin and muscles of the eyelid together without making any incisions. In this method, invisible sutures under the upper eyelids create desired double eyelid lines. The non-incisional method works better on teenagers and young adults with good skin elasticity. If you have sleepy eyes, it is preferable to perform ptosis correction surgery along with double eyelid surgery as it is hard to get the desired results by implementing double eyelid surgery alone.

Non-incisional double eyelid surgery is recommended if:

  • You want a natural-looking result with a quick recovery.
  • You have thin eyelids without excessive fat, muscle, or skin.
  • You want larger eyes without an explicit double fold.

Non-incisional double eyelid surgery steps:

1.  Check the patient's eye condition and design the shape of the desired double eyelid with the patient in a sitting position.

2.  Apply local anesthesia and sedation.

3.  Create 5-7 punctures on the eyelid.

4.  Fix the skin and eyelid muscles with threads.

5.  Create natural and smooth double eyelid folds.

Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery

Incisional double eyelid surgery removes extra tissue (skin, fat, and muscle) to create natural double eyelids. This method is for those who want clearly defined creases with long-lasting effect.

The result of the incisional double eyelid surgery is usually more permanent than the non-incisional method. However, it takes longer for the swelling to subside and to get natural appearance.

Incisional double eyelid surgery is recommended if:

  • Your eyelids are thick with a high volume of fat/muscle
  • You have excess skin
  • You want to have clearly defined double eyelids
  • You want to get large eyes with longer-lasting double eyelids

Revision cases

The double fold is too high

In this case, existing scars are removed, and the double eyelids are created at the proper height.

Depending on the individual's condition, fat grafting or pulling down the upper eyelid fat pocket may also be necessary.

Before

After

The double fold is too low

A crease in a higher position can be created above the existing lines using non-incisional, incisional, or partial incisional methods depending on the current condition of the eyelids.

Before

After

Asymmetric double folds

Our revision procedure aims to enhance symmetry by considering several factors, such as the size of the eyes and the distance between the eyes and eyebrows. The fold height is adjusted to the desired position.

Before

After

Sleepy eyes

In this case, the eyelid muscles are strengthened through ptosis correction.

Before

After

Multiple folds

Multiple folds can sometimes be formed over the crease on the double eyelid. In such cases, the adhesion can be removed or corrected through micro fat grafting to create one clear line. Pulling down the upper eyelid fat pocket may also be necessary.
